Question I've had some hissing sound coming from the steering column(since last week) when I turn the wheel to the right. I check the fluid & it was a little low & added more. It hasn't helped. Also when trying to maneuver into a pkg space thus needing to turn the steering wheel from far left to the right for straightening, it tends to get very stiff. Is this something to get looked at?
Answer hi teri.. well it sure sounds like you have a rack and pinion prob.although a hissing is not common the steering wheel stiffening up certainly is.and since it is a steering and although only noticeable during parking right now it can effect the steering at anytime.so since it is a safety feature i would have to advise yoyu yes get it checked .as the weather get,s colder the problem will certainly get worse.not an extremely expensive repair.but would be worth the money to get several estamates .you will have the best luck at a front end shop or brake shop dealerships will be double the cost.but you are probably looking at alignment for 60.00 a rack from auto zone or a discount store. 150.00 and labor prob a cpl hundred.so at best around 400. hope this helps please take a moment to rate my help.it is very important to me ty billymac
