Oldsmobile/Buick Repair - timing

Expert: Van - 12/2/2007

Question
how can i check the timing on my 1990 buick skylark 2.5 4cyl.it has a dis system. i have replaced the icm, coil, wires, andplugs it still will not start. i thought that if i checked the timing i could diagnos the problem but i don't know how to check the timing on this dis systenm

Answer
Hi Ed,
There is no real timing adjustment other than base timing when the engine is rebuilt.
I need to ask if there is any spark at all.
Assuming there is power to the ignition, and no spark, I would make sure the cam shaft is turning, and then check the crankshaft position sensor. You need a signal from it to create spark.

WWW.autozone.com has service literature free online. Just enter your vehicle information, and check it out.
