Oncology (General Cancer) - stage IV esophogeal cancer

Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 1/12/2008

Question
My Mother was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer 7 months ago. She had been receiving chemotherapy treatment every week for 4 months and the 2 tumors have reduced in size by 60%. She is now on an every other week schedule of chemotherapy and the tumors have just remained the same. I'm just wondering if her treatment should be more aggressive     or if she should stop treatment and just enjoy what time she has left.

Answer
Probably - but this is a question that only her drs. can answer - she receives about as much chemo therapy as she can take without too severe side effects. But you should clrify this with her drs. The second part of your question is not for me or you to answer! Only she herself can answer that!
