Oncology (General Cancer) - Adnexal Mass - Ovarian Malignancy?

Question
Hello-
After seeing an allergist for chronic urticaria, a GI specialist for what I thought was IBS, a CT Scan finally revealed that I have 9cm right adnexal loculated cyst. A follow-up ultrasound had similar findings and noted that the large mass had two other cysts and a "daughter cyst with low impedance in the daughter cyst and in the cyst wall". I was referred to a gynocological oncologist who is recommending surgical removal of the cyst, radical hysterectomy and possibly more tissue removals depending on the findings during surgery.  This surgeon is wanting to perform the surgery laparoscopically.  I'm concerned as I've read that this can be risky if the mass is indeed malignant.
My questions are first of all, how likely is a mass with these characteristics (the cyst was not present in an ultrasound from 10 months ago and is now the size of a softball) to be malignant?  The oncologist would not give me any predictions... Is it safe to do a laparoscopic surgery with a mass of this size and with the possibility of malignancy?
Another complication --- I have a great deal of scar tissue as a result of a previous laparotomy to repair a perforated uterus (D%26C gone wrong after attempted removal of retained placenta) and a classic C-Section two years thereafter.  Would this history also call for a laparotomy rather than laparoscopy??
Any advice is greatly appreciated as I feel this surgery is a complicated and big decision that could have serious consequences if not approached cautiously...
 Thanks in advance-

Answer
Well laparascopy is supposed to be more cautious than a laparatomy. However your gynecologist could do the laparascopy first in order to inspect your ovary and take a biopsy and then decide what to do next. If indeed this is malignant it has to go as soon as possible! And it is quite possible that this is malignant. It seems to me that it would be best for you to get rid of of your uterus too.
