Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 10/25/2009
Question Dr Nordquist,
I ask you a question before about my transvaginal ultrasound and recieved your answer. I wanted to add that my endometrial stripe was 6.7mm and this was on day 5 of my cycle. I did have an uterine scraping that was "with in normal limits". Is 6.7mm too big? and my period going on with bright red spotting for at least 7 days ( is this normal). Also midcycle spotting almost every period. I have also had diarrhea for a prolonged period of time ( since January or Feb). I had normal colonoscopy in Jan and normal abd ct in Jan as well. The cause of the diarrhea has never been discovered( never had a fever, blood work normal in Jan/ sed rate normal). I do feel that my lower abd is slightly distended most of the time, worse on the right side where the larger of the two ovaries are (also slightly tender here too). I thought that the ovarian thickness should not be thicker than 1.5cm? Mine are both thicker than that, as I previously mentioned.
The ultrasound (transvaginal) read by a basic gynecologist reads," Uterus appears normal in size and shape. Endometrium measures 6.7 mm. Both ovaries are visualized and appear normal. There is no free fluid noted."
Just wanted to give you a word by word account of the report.

Answer I see nothing alarming in your report. Also if the pathologist did not see anything remarkable in your endometrial/uterine scraping material then you most probably can forget about any uterine/endometrial cancer at present. The other things you ask should be answered by a gynecologist - which I'm not, I'm a medical oncologist & radiation therapist. I do have experience of gynecological oncology but I'm not a gynecologist. I assume that your gynecologist has also done pap smears from your uterine cervix and that those were normal.
