Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 10/23/2009
Question "Im a 36 yr old healthy female an im so worried bout this ..For the past three weeks to a mth i have a swollen gland on my right side of my groin...it is sentive to touch an painful wen i touch it sit an walk , my doctor gave me a antiobtic an its not helping so my #1 fear is cancer , I feel fine i have no other symptoms just the symptoms i told u above...so i hope u can ease my mind ...THANK u
Answer If it is sore, tender & painful it is probable that it is due to an infection/inflammation. Maybe your medication is not the correct one. An infection should be cured after 3 weeks of treatment so you have to discuss with your dr. if you should change antibiotic which seems probable. If you want it confirmed that it is a reaction to an infection/inflammation and not a cancer you can insist on a fine/thin needle aspiration biopsy of your gland. Good luck!
