Question I am 41 years old and I have just had a radical hysterectomy including lymph node dissection. I have very aggressive Stage IIIC uterine cancer. Although my Dr. said she got it all out she wants to start chemo and radiation therapy almost immediately. She said if I don't the cancer will probably return in about 3 months, maybe to my bowels or bladder. Does that sound right? Also, if I don't get the treatments and cancer does come back, can you give me an approximate life expectancy since the cancer is so aggressive? Thank you so much for your time and any help you can give me on this question.
Answer You can NEVER be sure that ALL has been removed! So your dr. is quite correct and I fully agree with her. If it does come back you will most probably be a stage IV (4) cancer case which at present is incurable and most probably eventually fatal. However it may be possible to keep it under control with chemotherapy & radiation therapy at least for some time even then. That makes it impossible to give you a good life expectancy evaluation. BUT if you want a chance of a CURE (no guarantees though) you SHOULD accept that treatment NOW because if the cancer returns it is too late! GOOD LUCK!
