Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 11/9/2009
Question Alright so here we go. I am a 24 year old male in relatively good health. About two months ago I woke up after a weekend of wiffle ball and drinking for my friend that died 5 years ago. Well when I woke up I noticed a small movable lump in my left thumb right in the middle. There is no pain and it hasn't grown. I didn't think much of it but about a month later I noticed some pain in the same wrist the thumb is located on. There is only pain when I rotate the wrist clockwise. Other then then it does not cause me any problems. All I can come up with is that the lump in my thumb is cancerous and has spread to my wrist. I find it too ironic that there is pain in the same wrist the lump is located on. The reason why I am asking online is because as of right now I don't have health insurance because I am a recent graduate from college and haven't found employment yet. SO in order for me to visit a hospital I need to fill out all this paperwork for aide. Please tell me what you think.
Answer Based on this information there is very little evidence - if any - that your wrist pain in any way is connected to that lump of yours and even less that it in any way has to do with cancer. Without an examination we can not get any further. So I do suggest that you have your lump and your wrist examined by a doctor, insurance or no insurance. You should ask a hand surgeon or an orthopedic surgeon to do it and if not available a general surgeon. Good luck!
