Oncology (General Cancer) - Cancer of the spine

Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 6/22/2009

Question
I have a 83 year old grandfather with stage 4 spine cancer and lung cancer but he is loaded with it in his spine it is in his lumbar bone area.He also has cellulites, neuropathy, diabetes he is just starting the radiation for his cancer but i don't think it is working because he is living on morphine patches and perks. He cannot have surgery or go on Cemo because of his age do you think you can help me out on whats further to come and maybe how long he has to live with this pain.

Answer
Is his lung cancer a primary lung cancer that has spread to his spine? If so his survival time can probably be measured in months regardless of treatment. Apart from radiation therapy and pain relief with morphine there is in this situation not much that can be offered him.
