Question In 1963,at 6 years old, I had a mass of rhabdomyosarcoma removed from two ribs on my left side and into my abdomen. I was told that I had the largest amount of cobalt they could give me. The doctor had told my parents that the radiation may have destroyed one kidney. I have no records. I had a CT scan a year ago(due to achiness and tightness in that area) and everything looked okay, just shoved forward. Is there anything I should do or watch for in the future? (I have had a skin cancer (carcinoma) surgically removed from that area a couple of years ago.
Answer Only to 1. have regular medical check ups and 2. contact your dr. whenever any symptom or sign appears. Your radiation therapy at that time - though risky in many ways - probably saved your life! After such a long observation time I think it is safe to say that you probably are cured with regards to your sarcoma.
