Oncology (General Cancer) - sarcomatoid tumors

Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 6/22/2009

Question
my husband was diagnosed with a sarcomatoid tumor in his left kidney and had it removed in June of 08. It has mestasisized to his lungs and colon, and had a lung resection in March of 09 and also part of the colon removed and reattached. he now has more tumors in both lungs and is on chemo with cisplatin and gemcitabine can you give me any info on this monster of a tumor or any help. We live in the US

Answer
I'm very sorry to read of his - and your - problems! This situation is - as I'm sure you already know - extremely serious and I can unfortunately not offer you any guarantees of a safe and happy outcome. When a sarcomatous malignant tumor has reached a stage like this it is very difficult to treat and any treatment has a most uncertain outcome. In this situation the only possible treatment is chemotherapy. If enough is an entirely different matter unfortunately. Please do keep me posted!
