Online Marketing/How to Create an Editable Home Page in Word Press | Delete Search Bars in Word Press | Create a Private Blog in Word Press
With reference to a Word Press Blog I am trying to create I have the following questions:
1. On my home page that is the page that was automatically created with the home button in the header bar, I cant seem to figure out how to add information to the page. There is no edit button, like on the other pages I created such as contact, about us etc....
2. Also how do i delete the search bars from the home page? There are two search bars which I want to remove?
3. If I want to create a private blog that is not searchable or found on the internet and is only available to people I want to share it with, how do i do this and what are my options. If there is a way to set a login id for people I want to share it with (but do not want them to have access to edit my blog or make changes) how do I do this?
Before you do anything that I've written about here make sure you back up your wordpress site.
I know that seems like a simple suggestion but it is worth repeating.
Back up your site.
I thought about doing a video for you regarding this but found one that makes it pretty easy, so why reinvent the wheel, right?
Jeremy makes it pretty simple to follow along and he has other videos that you might find useful.
Then you can edit like any other page on your site.
Now removing the search bar or bars from your theme can be a little more technical. You can learn these skills by googling "learning about your file manager in "whatever hosting company you use".
If you have a hosted site then you can go into your cpanel or control panel and access your file manager. Then follow along with this video.
It looks like he is using a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program but really about the same. The only difference is access to your site from your control panel or directly from an FTP program on your computer which communicates with your control panel.
I also found this that might be helpful on the main Wordpress site itself.
I hope that helps.
Don't be freaked about code etc. It's a little like learning to build a bookcase but instead of nails, tape measure, hammer etc you're learning to use letters and symbols. There are plenty of free courses on learning code on the internet but that is only if you want to really customize your site. For this it is simply about finding the right section and deleting it in your code editor, cpanel file manager, or FTP program.
Now regarding keeping a blog private for just users that you want to see the content.
This may help and I also ran a search for plugins in one of my sites and found one called "private only" that might do the job.
Good luck and remember to back up.
