Online Marketing/How to Grow a LOCAL Email List

Question
Hi Danna,

My name is Igor, and I am a personal trainer based in Toronto, Canada.

Over the past 1.5 years, I've been able to grow my list to just over 1100 people, and it's all been through public speaking engagements. So in the middle of my talk, I'd offer people the opportunity to sign up for my fitness newsletter.

I wanted to get your opinion on what I could do to build my email list online. I'm really only looking for local (people from the Greater Toronto Area) subscribers. I already have a website (www.TorontoFitnessOnline.com), and a number of squeeze pages (fatlossforwomencourse.com, adrenalfatiguecourse.com and increaseyourenergycourse.com).

I was wondering what methods you might use if you were in the same shoes as me. Ideally, these methods:

- Add only local subscribers
- Can be outsourced. I'm a gym rat, not a full-time internet marketer. So I have big problems sitting in front of the computer for long periods of time.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Igor.

Answer
Hello and thank you for sharing your websites with me as I even learned a few things about my weight loss struggles and appreciate you sharing! So, to answer your question to grow a local list, few options are to have a sign up list with a local name as an addition to your subscriber options.  This is another reason I love Constant Contact. Not only because I am a local expert with them  but because I seriously love the service!

All of these squeeze pages you could have a LIST of selections for them to sign up for which newsletter to receive:
1) Local List with local special offers
2) ebook list
and so on. Stress the fact that each list is EXCLUSIVE to subscribers only. Then as you grow each list you will be able to "focus" market to each group. See it in action by joining my newsletter at: http://JoinMyNewsletter.com  you can always opt out without a problem but you will see what options I have set-up.  And if you would like to give it a free trial, please use my referral link at: (http://www.constantcontact.com/index.jsp?pn=powersellingmom )

Next suggestion is to run a campaign on facebook with an ad and link for them to subscribe to your newsletter.  With the way campaigns are set-up you can tune into only offer by county codes and age groups as well as many other options.  I have tried this myself to focus on baby boomers by zip code with results.  Visit my page at (http://facebook.com/dannacrawford1 )

The ideas I mentioned are low maintenance for you to set it up and forget it and wait for the lists to grow THEN you can focus on marketing to the list according to the packages you will be offering.

Hope that helps,
Danna
