How to Have an Online Relationship - Online relationship

Expert: Melissa Burton (a.k.a Bee) - 11/29/2008

Question
Okay, yeah. I met this guy online about two and a half years ago and we've been chatting and having fun but about four months ago he started telling me he loves me and wants to meet and all that, but we're both 16. He keeps asking to meet me and I'm not sure if I should. I'm afraid he will be totally different in person and we don't live close to each other. I really like him and all but I'm scared. He keeps telling me that he'll wait till we are both of age and all that but I still don't know what to do and we've been arguing a lot about it lately and it's making me stresses out. Should I just tell him to drop the subject or tell him I'll consider it? Or should I just leave him? I don't know what to do, I'm really confused.

Answer
Hello
Well I think the best answer is to tell him the truth. Let him know that you will consider it but you guys have a lot of obstacles to deal with and that this whole thing is stressing you out. If he truly loves you then he'll understand that this whole thing is too overwhelming to deal with right now and that you would really appreciate if he dropped the subject for awhile and let you think about it. Anyway I think you should tell him you'll consider it and the truth about your feelings on the topic. He sounds like a great friend though so leaving him would be a bad thing to do but also you need to listen to him and at least hear him out but try not to feel pressured or anything. That's all you can do. If he continues to argue with you about this and wont let it go, even when you tell him you'd like to let it go and just be friendly, then perhaps you guys need a break for a little bit from talking to each other. Good luck!

Melissa
