Subject: Importing Tailor made shirts to the UK

Question
Hi John,

We have a successful online tailoring business which services mainly Australian markets and we are looking to broaden our horizons.

The market for shirts in the UK is highly competitive but we believe we offer a better product at a better price. Our shirts will retail for around 60 pounds but you then need to add shipping (7 pounds) and Customs and VAT.

We work on the premise that there is no such thing as a perfect fit without it being tailor made. Our site works by customers inputing their own measurements and then designing their own shirts.

I realise that tailored clothing from Saville Row and Jermyn Street is prohibitively expensive but we wonder whether or not there is room in the middle of the market?

Do you think there is a market for our product?

Marcus

Answer
This sounds like a good idea. There is most certaintly a market for this. Take a look at the existing companies offering such a service in the uk:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=tailored+shirts+online&btnG=Google+Search...

Take a look at these sites (if you have not already) and compare their prices and quality.

Obviously, if you have established yourselves in Australia then this will go well for you in trying to enter the UK market.

Best of luck on your venture.
