Question Where do I go to find college scholarships in opera. I am a high school senior and would like to study opera
Answer Hi Jess,
Where do you live? And what colleges are you applying to? You can visit their websites and they usually have information about available scholarships. For example: if you are interested in Manhattan School of Music in NYC - go to their website (www.msmnyc.edu) and click on Financial Aid. Their site explains what they have to offer.
You can also call the financial aid offices ( but try to get information before you do that) and talk to them about what might be available.
Also - most states offer scholarships and in looking around the internet (I searched on state scholarships) I found www.collegescholarships.org/
which looks great. You can search by state as well. There seems to be many sites out there to help.
Also - you should have a counselor in school that would have further information.
I wouldn't limit myself to just an "opera" scholarship. There are so many different kinds of aid - try them all.
I hope this helps. So glad you are interested in opera!
Also, check out www.classicalsinger.com That is a great singer's site and they have information on most of the major opera schools and programs in the country. Also www.operaamerica.org is a wonderful site also - they offer many seminars. Once you get into college usually you can become a student member. Go read about them.
