On Habanera...

You will need to make sure you can do "slides."

I suggest listening to Maria Callas or Julia Migenes sing the song.

How can your teacher expect you to sing it if you are not an Opera Singer? I cant imagine that you will find singing this easy, however, as a mezzo soprano you should be able to sing it comfortably.

Make sure your pronunciation of the french is correct and roll your 'r's, as that is a tchnique needed in the song (at least to make an audience think you can sing opera)
