Opera - The Bass Voice

Expert: Pamela Thomas - 8/24/2008

Question
Hello Pamela,
The tenor voice seems to get all the attention and acclaim, but isn't the bass voice rarer and at least as diffi6b124cult to develop? Thank you very much.  Lawrence

Answer
Hi Lawrence,

I would agree that a true bass voice is hard to find.  Tenors do get all of the attention because singing their high notes is not "natural"... when done right it's thrilling and exhilarating!  Listen to Corelli, Pavarotti, Domingo...

A true bass is amazing - there is something about those very low notes ringing out that affects me - it's just the voices are so different.

Good luck to you - whether you are a bass or a tenor!

Best,

Pamela
