Opera - where should one begin

Expert: Pamela Thomas - 9/22/2008

Question
have been listening to a lot of operas- the magic flute is one of my favorites.
I have a pretty eclectic background in music - oriental thru western, classical thru rock.
If I was toc compose an opera that i have sketches for- how shd i begin -i cannot read music yet.

Answer
Hi Sat,

It would be wonderful if you could begin to study.... you seem so creative - perhaps taking a course at a music school?   Also, many music schools have a composition department - perhaps you could take your sketches in and ask for some advice?

I'm sorry I can't be of more help - but I would try to connect up with a music school/university and get their opinion on what you are doing...

But if you really want to compose you need to read music - and study it deeply.

Best of luck to you!

Pamela
