Opera/Singing Opera

Question
Hi Pamela,
I am a 30+ law student who also loves to sing.  While attending Columbia University undergrad about 4 years ago, I realized that not only did I love listening to opera... I also loved performing.  I am a soprano but have never trained.  I have, however, taught myself several arias and art songs by a variety of composers, everything from "Ach Ich Fuhl's" to Faure.

I would like to work on my operatic technique.  Do you have any pointers.

Thanks,
Nina

Answer
Hi Nina,

Good for you for following something you love to do!  I believe it would really help you to work with a teacher or at least have a professional hear you and give you some suggestions.

I you live in NYC and would like to sing or work with me - send me your email address and I'll contact you directly.

Otherwise, it's almost impossible to say whether you are working on the right repertory or on the right track without hearing you.
I would be happy to do that and give you my thoughts.

I wish you all the best.  Just keep singing and enjoying yourself!

Pamela
