Ophthalmology & Optometry/vision scale

Question
My contact lense perscription is -9.0.  What would this be approximately on the
20/20 vision scale?  Also, I've heard if your eyes are too bad you can't have
vision correction surgery.  Is this true and am I at risk for not being able to have
the surgery?

Answer
Dear Brooke,

The 20/20 is visual acuity, which simply means that with your -9.00 number can you read 20/20 or not? Your optometrist who will check for the same will be able to tell you how much you are reading with this number as it is tested by them. One can be 20/20 or less with any number.

Hope this helps,
Regards,
