About the Electric Shock effect on the eye, I get as though some minute particle is moving inside the eye . Very similar to the Shock people get when the hand elbow gets a hit on a surface.
However, i dont have a problem with the vision . it is getting better . There is no redness or no swelling or itching or watering .
Another Query i have is that of my Eye Power.
The Power before the Surgery was -18 on the Left eye and - 16 on the right eye.
I opted for a Multifocal lens worth 25k (Doc said it is imported from US)
Now,After the Surgery i am able to read newspaper/computer text at 1.5 to 2 feet distances(60 cms) max.
I am able to watch television clearly at 1.5 metres distances. Beyond this distance, I am not able to figure out the faces in the television.
Yesterday, i checked up with my doctor . The Power at Left eye is -4 and right eye is -2.5 . It is exactly 1 week over from the Surgery .
Should i wait for another 2-3 weeks so that, i will come to know on the residual power or i can opt for a glass to view the distant objects?
Please advice.
Thanks for your query .
Regards,
Gopi
Answer Dear Gopi,
Okay- now I understand your query.
The minute particles you see moving are usually called "floaters" They are part of the degenerative process that we usually see in the vitreous jelly inside the eye and this is very common in high myopes and/or elderly people. These floaters usually settle down in few-weeks to months and should be ignored.
Also flashes of light or transient momentary visual disturbances are common after cataract surgery (also C.L.E.). These flashes are also common due to the design of the multifocal IOL. In a vast majority of subjects, the brain gets used to and ultimately starts ignoring such flashes. I would suggest that you give it time and most probably this will settle down.
An Important word of caution: Flashes of light can indicate that there is some form of traction (pull) on the retina as a consequence of the surgery. This is also seen in high myopes of over -6.00D. Your eye specialist is absolutely correct- you need to see a retina specialist for a detailed retina evaluation to rule out any problem in your retina. Please schedule an appointment as soon as possible. In case there is a problem, it can be treated by laser. In case there is no problem- at least it would set your mind to rest !
Regarding your residual power- there are various reasons possible for this. First- an adequate high power of IOL was not available to the doctor. Second- Could be an error in the IOL power correction (accurate calculation at such high powers in very difficult !). Third- your eyes adjustment to the IOL could be a cause.
Normally we recommend waiting for at least 4 weeks (usually 1 month) from time of surgery before getting your glasses made. In your case,in case your vision is troubling you, I would suggest that you can go in for a temporary low cost glasses for now, keeping in mind that you might have to get the lenses changed 3-4 weeks from now.
I hope this answers your query. However please feel free to write back again if the need arises.
