Subject: corneal ulcer

Question
dear dr, first, i would like to say that you are very nice in answering all of these peoples questions when you dont have to, second the doctor said that i had a corneal ulcer. it is right in the center of my eye. its been 8 days now and i still have blurriness but seems to slowly getting better day by day and also have really bad light sensitivity.. the doctor wants to prescribe steroid drops. my question is do you think that the blurriness will go away on its own and how long do you think the light sensitivity will go away... thank you doc.

Answer
Dear Jeffrey,
Usually steroids are not prescribed for corneal ulcers unless 'sterile', which the doctor can tell from your examinations.

Steroid eye drops are used for keratitis- SPK etc, if you have an exact diagnosis, you can let us know.

Regards,
Dr Shroff
