Ophthalmology & Optometry - INSIDE CORNER OF THE EYE

Expert: Dr Anand Shroff, MD, FICS - 7/5/2009

Question
I just noticed on the way out from our cabin via 3 wheeler, that I had a purplish, burise or looks like a broken blood vessel on the inside of my left eye!   It is about the size of a nickel and is weird looking.   No discomfort or hurt at all!   What could it be and what should I do?   I need help fast! Thanks!

Answer
Dear Greg,

Just like you said, it could be a bruise or sub conjunctival haemorrhage in medica terminology.

It is usually self limiting and disappears in 10 - 12 days.

No need for any eye drops as it will not help. If very red, Clearine eye drops (OTC) are safe to use but just will help for few hrs.

Hope this helps,
Best
Dr Shroff
