Answer
Good day Debra,

AS you know, Oracle database is mostly run on memory.  Therefore, I will recommend your laptop to have minimum the memory required for your Oracle database plus overhead.  If you are running a 32bit Windows, the max you can have is 4GB while Windows only recognizes 3.5GB.

Then, the storage speed.  Most of the laptop comes with 5400rpm hard drive. Though the performance is decent, but it may be a little bit slow to run an Oracle DB given that you want super quick (or comparable) performance.  I will recommend a 7200rpm hard drive to boost the i/o a little bit.

CPU, the heart of it all.  Most of the CPU nowadays are dual core.  If money is not matter, then go for something top of the line, for example Intel Core2 Extreme series CPU.  But unless you are running CPU intensive application, then I do not believe the Intel Core2 Extreme will help you.

I am currently running a 80GB demo database on a Intel Core 2 Duo T9300, with 3.5GB of RAM (4GB physical), with my storage on two external firewire drives and it works out pretty good for demo.

Unless you want to spend a lot of money on the laptop, you will not get the same performance as if you are running on a server.  In addition to that, if you are doing a demo, and your audiences should know that the laptop has limited resources, however, the performance should be comparable based on the specification.

Hope it helps
Elliot
