ANSWER: Hi Dinesh,

First of all you must update your resume to contain all the PL/SQL advanced techniques used in your projects. Your resume should give the impression that you have done sufficient work in PL/SQL, along with Oracle database. Your application support experience should also include PL/SQL techniques utilised, use of collections, and any other advanced areas in PL/SQL. Also do mention some achievements in all your projects.

At the time of interview you should be confident enough to sell yourself as a PL/SQL developer.

Even though you are chasing PL/SQL side, Oracle DBA is much more in demand nowadays. So if you can gain some experience on that side, you can also try for DBA. You can create a new resume to highlight your DBA experience. Your certifications will help you in both areas.

Hope this helps.

QUESTION: Hi Suchitra,
Thanks a lot for your quick responce.

I want some suggestion on couple of points.
1.I have already mentioned advance PL-SQL Techniques.
2.Basically my project was to  focused on Telecom Domain(Billing) support and having just data update and data extration task that only involve basic PL-SQL.So that Its very difficult for me to update CV so that it reflects Pure PL-SQL Developer work in terms of project.
3. I have also tried hard for DBA but not received any call in last 10 months.

Could u please suggest some other way Like:
Is there any other source from where I can get actual Pl-SQL Development
experience.(Complete SDLC).
Have u any idea for work from Home PL-SQL Development projects,so that i can get some experience and can mentioned the same on CV.

Quick responce is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dinesh Gupta

Answer
Hi Dinesh,

Even if your project was only data related, you can add some points to indicate that you have used the advanced techniques to extract/update data. Be sure to update according to the Oracle version you are using. You can also add some experience with different tools like Import/Export, SQL*Loader etc. Not necessary you should have used it, but you should be able to explain it to the interviewer. This will be helpful just to get you some calls.

For DBA I know you will need experience first. But you can mention some DBA activities in your current project.

Since I am located in US, I don't know the job market in India. But you can send me details like your current company, location and where are you searching for new jobs, so that I can help you further. I don't think work from home experience will be helpful in this case.

Also, if you can send me your resume, I can help you in updating it appropriately. Send it to my hotmail id - suchitraajoshi@hotmail.com

Hope this helps.

Regards

Suchitra
