Question Hi Wayne, How can I get my oncidium orchid to produce flowers? I live in South Florida, the plants are on my shady porch, water with half strength fertilizer...once a week. Should I try to put them in the refrigerator for a day or two. Also, is this a good way to get all orchids to bloom?
Thanks in Advance.
Answer Loraine, you live in an ideal part of the country to grow oncidiums. Most oncidiums like lots of light air movement and moisture. If you have a place where you can hang it or place it outside where you can gradually introduce more and more sunshine gradually), that is what they like. Just be careful to gradually increase the light level.
Most oncidiums do not require a temperature drop to induce buds. In fact they like lots of light and a lot of warmth. They also like air movement such as a breeze. I hang mine under a tree where it gets full sun for part of a day.
