Question i bought a young phalaenopsis from a nursery maybe 2 months ago. since i bought it, i water it once a day with diluted orchid food in the early morning and it has been out of direct sunlight- it has been very hearty and i have noticed a little growth in the leaves. recently, one of the top leaves has turned brown on one half. all the rest of the leaves are healthy and continue to grow. i turn the plant every few days so that the sick leaf isn't constantly in the sun but i haven't seen any improvement. any idea what is wrong or what i can do to fix it?
Answer Samantha, there could several causes of the browning of the leaf. The main focus, is to prevent that browning from spreading any further as well as to remove the unsightly nature of the leaf. Using a sharp, sterile razor blade or scissors, cut off the leaf about one inch below the brown area of the leaf. Try to grow the plant where it gets only indirect light or some morning sunshine only.
