Orchids - Cymbidium Orchid Flowering

Question
Hi,
I bought a cymbidium with 3 flowering spikes at end of Feb. The spike is turning yellow & the flowers are starting to wither. Do I cut the spike or just let it wither away? Also, how do I get it to flower again & when? You can tell I'm new at this! thanks!!

Answer
Donna, you can cut the spike where it emerges at any time once the flowers are done.  Cymbidiumds like high light so you can grow it outside.  Start growing it in a semi-shaded location and gradually move it into full sunshine. When you see new growth it can take one tsp per gallon of plant food every other week.  Leave it out in the fall-- it can take 40 degrees and needs the cooler temperatures to set buds for its next flowering.  If grown well, they can flower annually.
