Question I was cutting back this orchid - I realized the stem had a bud on it - I put in
water and it has continued to grow. How and what do I do to plant it now? It
does not show any roots at this time and i am unsure of what type of orchid it
is too... I rescued it from being tossed.
The main plant is about to bloom (8) and I am ecstatic!

Answer Kimberly, as a rule orchid flower spikes do not root. It would not be unusual if the bud on this flower spike were to enlarge and even open. Without roots it would be futile to plant the flower spike. I recommend leaving it as is. It is likely that you have a phalaenopsis orchid as they are the most common type of orchid. After the plant blooms, I recommend that you repot it in orchid potting mix and you may have many future blooming seasons to enjoy.
