Orchids/Orchid flowers falling off

Question
Hello - I recieved an orchid in Feb of this year, and up until two days ago it was beautiful, with pink and white large flowers about 6 on one branch. Im not sure what kind it is but it is quite tall, with large flowers. Is there a reason why the flowers have fallen off suddenly ? I keep it at a normal temp, and only water once a week. Thank you for your help.

Answer
Emily-Jane, it is natural for the plant to be done flowering after a couple of months flowering.  If it is well cared for, it should flower again next year about the same time.  For that to happen, we must try to establish the type of orchid you have.  If you can send a picture, I can probably do that for you.  There are three basic types of orchids in cultivation:  phalaenopsis, cattleya, and dendrobium.  Each requires slightly different treatment after flowering so I need a picture or a description of the plant.
