Question Hello, I live in Miami Florida I planted an orchid at my mom's house around the mango tree it is blooming again we moved to Hollywood Fl I have Ruby Red Tree in my back yard with a very large trunk. How can I take an Orchid from my Mom's house and re-plant it in my Yard is it possible ?

Answer Thank you Frank for your question. In the absence of more complete information reply, I assume the plant has establihed itsef by rooting on the mango tree and you want to root it on the Ruby Red tree. Do you know what type of orchid it is? Perhaps you could send a picture. In the absence of more specific information, I recoommnd the following: soak the roots attached to the Mango thoroughly and carefully pry the roots loose starting with the plant and working outward. It may be necessary to soak the roots several times. Remove as many of the roots as possible with the plant when you remove it. Next, mount the plant on a piece of wood as follows: place some coconut fiber next to the wood mount and tie the plant to the mount such that the coconut fiber is between the plant and the wood mount. This should be very secure so that the plant will not move once it is mounted. Then, you will need to secure the plant on its mount to the Ruby Red tree. You probably should drill a couple of holes on opposite ends of the wood mount and screw screws directly through the holes into the Ruby Red tree. Both the plant and its wooden mount need to be very securely fastened in order for the new roots to fasten themselves to the mount and, ultimately, to the tree. Then, once securely mounted, you will need to water the plant frequently to prevent it from getting too dry and promote new root growth. Once new roots have secured themselves to the tree you can ease up on the watering.
