Expertise

I can answer questions about tourist travel and outdoor pursuits in Oregon and Washington. We can discuss sites to see, weather, camping, hiking, backpacking, and snowshoeing. I know where the crowds are and where the crowds aren't. I can't answer questions about lodging, as I am usually camping.

Experience

I've lived in Oregon for just over 30 years. From the Midwest originally, I am fortunate that I was able to choose where I wanted to live and to then get a job there. Though my home state is Oregon, I've travelled extensively in both states. I've been in the busy downtowns of Portland and Seattle and in the most isolated wilderness areas of each state. I'm an experienced hiker and backpacker and can recommend trails to suit all experience levels. I can also suggest which areas to avoid if you prefer quieter, less crowded areas.

Organizations
I belong to three local hiking/ downhill and CC skiing/snowshoeing/conservation clubs and one national club with similar activities. My travels include trips with these organizations, family, friends, and alone.

Publications
I have written post-trip articles for two of the hiking clubs to which I belong. And, of course, my writting appeared for 30 years in the parent bulletins I regularly sent home with my students.

Education/Credentials
I recieved a Bachelor of Education degree from an Ohio college in 1971. I have countless hours of work since then, though did not organize them in such a way as to obtain a masters. I taught elementary school for 33 years and then retired, but I am still active in the schools as a substitute teacher.

Awards and Honors
I received two awards as a teacher. I was named a Jenning's Scholar, and I was nominated by my district as State Teacher of the Year.
