Question
" looking for recommendations on an informallakeside resort with cottages and a central meeting/socializing place to stay for about a week this summer. Preferred location is Oregon, would look at Washington, B.C. as well. Stayed at Diamond Lake last year -- too tacky, but liked having some of the activities, swimming raft where my 9-year-old could hang out with other kids. would like cabins or cottages minus television + a central lodge with tv/movies or similiar + a swimmable lake. Any advice appreciated"

Answer
Carol,
Can't think of any I know that have central lodge, most have NO lodge and NO TV,or all-out resort hysteria.
Tons of little places in Central Oregon around Bend..and Sunriver has tons of private homes/cabins for rent.(All w/TV I assume, but lots of kid activities...)
Take a look at www.cultuslakeresort.com..(unfortunately they  now allow jet skis on their lake but what a cute place). Also try www.suttlelake.com...very easy on kids and parents, laid back, tiny safe lake,no TV!
Very RUSTIC primary fishing lodges abound...
www.eastlakeresort.com(up in Newberry Crater) along w/Paulina Lake Resort...541-536-2260
www.covisitors.com has listings for Sunriver and some on Metolius River.
B.C. has some nice places also if that drive suits you.www.helloBC.com is great web site for exploring.
Worse to worse I'd suggest the old www.Goggle.com and search for lodges/resorts/Oregon/Washington. You'll get a wealth of info and hopefully one will catch your fancy.
Hard to escape the tackiness of Diamond Lake types...it was once a gem.But it seems folks want the bells and whistles instead of quiet and books and board games, bicycles and chatting it up w/the offspring.
Hope some of this helps....
Happy Mom's Day
Adrienne
