Question
Not sure if you know anything about southern Oregon, but here goes. My wife and I are thinking about retiring to southern Oregon (seems to be most like Oakland, CA where we live in terms of weather). Do you happen to have any suggestions about living in that area? Or how about the Portland area which I guess is where you are. Thank you.

Answer
Captain,
I rarely get down to southern Oregon but have heard Brookings on the coast is a hot retirement area, and LaPine in the center of state also.
Brookings in on the coast,in an odd banana belt, very mild, altho windier than hell sometimes.Has good medical care, not far north from Cresent City,CA.LaPine is close to Bend, high desert area so it's very hot in summer, cold and snowy in winter.
Actually the whole southern coast seems to be coming alive w/retirees,perhaps you should do a Google search for Brookings,Gold Beach. Then inland for Ashland,Medford which both sit on the I-5 corridor. You could get chamber of commerce info etc.
And the whole area is all beautiful!!!!!!
Portland is extremely spendy now, high unemployment, and really not the place I would retire to.
Eastern Oregon beautiful too but rather isolated.
Look at a map and see if anything in particular appeals to you and I could try and find info on housing, golf, recreation etc.
Brookings has that all....and a fine unspoiled beach!
Let me know if I can help further.
Oh,does AARP have a web site w/retirement towns?
Good luck!
Adrienne
