Expert: Charlotte Brunkhorst - 5/31/2007

Question
Are they good for your vegetable garden as well for your flowers..??

Thanks

Answer
Hi Laney;
Sure they are.
Organics are to use on everything.
You don't have to worry about burns from chemicals or poison on your food crops from chemicals, because you don't put any of these chemical.
Some things you may try that are organic, may not work as well as you expect.
The condirion of enrichment your soil has reached will cause results to vary from a little to amazing, but you don't HARM anything, or risk harming your children or pets, or your own health.
However, if you have cats pooping in your vegetabe garden, you CAN be affected adversely.
There are harmful microbes and parasites in the cat feces that could enter the vegetables and infect the people eating them.
Tossing lemon peels over the garden to keep cats away will possibly repel other little criters. They seem to repel ants, or at least the juice does.
Any peels you toss down, like orange peels to repel fire ants, will compost and add nutrients to the soil. So there is nothing but benefits of some kind, on some scale in using them.
An organic program has the added plus of giving you more peace of mind about what can or might harm your family.
