Organizing Your Home & Workspace - Tickle File

Expert: Jan Hayner - 12/5/2008

Question
Please describe what a "Tickle File" is and its benefits.

Answer
Hi Katie;
What you are talking about is called a 'Tickler File'. This is an organized way of keeping track of notes and things that you have to do in the future.

This can be as simple as an accordian file, a box with file folders or a filing cabinet drawer, to place the paper that you will need to accomplish the job.

You may keep track on a calendar to remind you to check your files on appropriate days.

Simply put, you can organize it according to places to call, places to go, bills to pay or you can arrange it according to days of the week, months or numbers of days. It should be set up for the easiest way for you to keep track of your 'to do' list.

The benefits is that you won't forget anything. On a particular day all you have to do is check your file to keep on top of things. You will never be late for an appointment, pay a bill past the due date or 'forget' anything. This also free's up the good old brain cells so that you don't have to keep going over things in your mind. You simply 'check your file'!

I bet you are running to the store right now to purchase your files!!
Happy organizing,
Jan Hayner
