My daughter has horrid stomach issues since putting her braces on 1 year ago. We've inquired with all the medical experts who say it cannot be caused by the braces, however, I beg to disput that fact. her issues began wtihin hours of having them put on. In doing my own research I've found a lot of helpful information that supports my suspisions. 1) She has a leaky gut, she was diagnosed 3 yrs ago with gluten intolerance. 2) Her leaky gut had not healed prior to the braces being put on. 3) Because of the leaky gut the nickel acts as an antigen which causes the body to create more candida. 4) She currently has a major candida overgrowth that we are trying to battle, however, as long as her system remains inflamed by the nickel in the braces she will continue to produce it. 5) In addition she was exposed to high levels of mercury while I was carrying her as I had a leaky filling that was not removed until after she was born that likely contributes to the reaction.

I think more and more dentists and MDs need to communicate about the overall body and ask more in depth question before dismissing the possiblities of the bodies reactions.

First may I say please set your questions to Public so other readers can benefit from the response. Also, if you look at my comprehensive answers, they are not short 1 or 2 paragraph quickie replies that anyone can type out in < 5 minutes. Instead I often will ask other colleagues in other specialties for their advice in order to provide you the questioner with a more interdisciplinary perspective. This all takes time. I ask for readers to therefore allow 5-7 days. You will be rewarded with a very detailed response.

Because of the nature of Orthodontic questions, any pictures of the teeth and X-ray images would be very helpful. If you write to me and explain that you have crooked overlapping front teeth can be interpreted in many many ways, and my goal is to provide a specific response that meets your needs.
