Orthodox Judaism/Anointing with oil

Question
I'm studying the Bible and want to know more about the anointing of oil from a Jewish perspective.  How is it done and why?

Answer
Dave,
Thank you for the kind question. The anointing oil was only used by Moses in anointing the High Priest and Priests (Exodus 29) and in the consecration of the Holy Place and articles (Exodus 30 and 40). We are forbidden from making anointing oil and its use. Anointing oil is not used in Judaism today. Hope this helps. Shalom!
