Orthodox Judaism/Rabbi's/Right Hand

Question
My sociology professor said that until just recently rabbi's had to
be right handed? I have never heard of this before and I have
attended shul my whole life. Please let me know. Thanks.

Answer
Interesting question. I know of no such requirement today, but likewise have never seen anyone read the Torah with their left hand. Reminds me of that Paul Simon song, "That's (left) the hand you use, oh never mind". Both hands are used for the Kohanim blessing, so I doubt being a south paw would be a disqualifying factor for the Priests. Sorry I can't shed any more light on the subject, but hope this helps. Shalom!
