Orthodox Judaism - Use of Blood

Expert: Rav Ovadiah - 10/4/2006

Question
Hello, my name is Marek Libuda. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
While reading your post on the use of blood, I encountered many similarities to our brochure "Jehovah's Witnesses and the Question of Blood". Besides, you are using God's name, Jehovah and you use the well-known expressions "take in blood" or "to sustain life", which are widely objected to by Witnesses' opponents.
To be frank, you don't look as an orthodox Jew. What connections are there between your post on the use of blood and our publications?

Best regards.

Answer
I think I found the discussion you were referring to. It was from a member of your faith who called himself Nick and was obviously trying to impose his beliefs on others. He started out asking "why would you risk your soul?", etc. When one starts out with a loaded question like that, it's not difficult to predict the outcome.

However, most of what you read was Nick's comments, not mine. Mine are mostly at the bottom of the page, after the advertisments. So you were correct, his outlook and opinions were word-for-word out of JW doctrine.

My only other post on the subject of blood during the last year had to do with a rare blood type and DNA. Since I told the questioner that I hope she shared her rare blood type (for transfusion), I hardly side on your side of this fence.

It's regretable that the questions and answers aren't better deliniated for future readers. I hope this clears up the matter appropriately. Shalom!
