Question
How come on jewish websites the word god is like g-d?

Answer
You pose an excellent and common question. The Ten Commandments admonish us not to use G-d's Name in vain (idle talk). Another commandment, I believe in Deuteronomy prohibits us from erasing G-d's Name. Hyphenating the word, where obviously the reader still knows of Whom we are speaking, allows us to discuss G-d and refer to Him without breaking either commandment. If you were to, say, print out a copy of something on a Jewish site which contained one of G-d's Names and were to take it into the bathroom or subsequently throw it away, thus disrespecting G-d, the writer obviously shares in the blame. By doing this, we remove said danger. "G-d" or "L-rd" are written by some Jews (but not by Orthodox ones) as they are not trult Names of G-d. However, it's a good safeguard. Hope this helps. Shalom!
