Orthopedics/failed quadrecept surgery

Question
My husband sustained a partial tear of his quadrecept.  Surgery was preformed after 5 weeks of PT.  It was on out patient procedure.  From the beginning, he said something was wrong.  I didn't feel right. He had several consultations with the surgeon.  After the healing period of 5 weeks, the surgeon told him that the surgery was a failure.  The quad never reattached.  The ortho was surprised stating that was the first time he ever had a failure.  He does not know what happened.  Now, my husband has a hole where the tendon never reattached.  A resulting limp, difficulty with stairs, pain. The quality of his life will never be the same.  He used to be very active. He went to several other surgeons. One said he would not try it again.  He ordered a brace and told him to use it.   The next surgeon said he would try revision.  Chances of success is about 70%.
What is your suggestion?  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Jane,
This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661, Roscoe Village 60618, Ukrainian Village 60622, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says,
As in all surgeries, you must weigh the risks versus the rewards. If the surgery may improve the quality of your husband's life, then it should be considered. I would get another opinion & if it's the same as the revision surgery, then you have 2 agreeing opinions. Ask the second opinion why they thought it didn't attach & what they would do-to increase the chance of attachment. I would even ask the surgeon who did the work, why he thinks it didn't attach & if he redid it-what he would do different.
Don't be afraid to puish for answers-so you can try to make a good decision.
Hope this helps & Good Luck!
