Hi Adam,
Can you explain what myxoid degeneration of the meniscus is to me.  Also, is the posterior horn of the medial meniscus towards the front of the knee or the back of the knee?  Should this prevent me from continuing with physical activity and does this degeneration typically get worse causing a tear in the meniscus?

Myxoid degeneration is not a term that I see often but my understanding is it often associated with a cyst or other small defect.

The posterior horn of the meniscus is towards the back of knee.

Meniscus degeneration often gets worse and may or may not result in functional deficits. Stopping all physical activity is usually not a good idea. Twisting activities are harder on the meniscus than more linear types of motions.

I treat a lot of athletes and very rarely tell them to stop activity (mostly because I know they won't listen to me). However, it is important to understand the risks and know that higher level activity and sports can lead to further damage.
