Osteoarthritis - Grinding painful knee

Expert: Dr. Timothy K. Durnin - 10/23/2007

Question
Dear Dr. Durnin,
Over the past week, I have developed pain in both knees but it's much worse in the right knee. You can actually hear and feel grinding when I flex the joint and it hurts at rest as well as when I move about (especially going upstairs).
Does this grinding sensation automatically mean that I have arthritis? I'm only 45 but my mother who is 67 recently had two knee replacements due to osteoarthritis. Is it hereditary? I should mention that I'm about 40 pounds overweight so if I lose weight can I reverse any damage?

Worried and in pain,
Carolyn

Answer
Hi Carolyn,

Please read my profile, there has been a very effective treatment just short of a cure for OA for many years proven with randomized placebo controlled studies. There is little excuse anymore for adult onset diabetes or OA since both are easily curable. Get the best glucosamine sulfate with MSM you can find and take 3 grams/day for life, this should solve any arthritic problems for life.

BTW: Hip and Knee replacement is medieval, they do resurfacing now since most qualify as candidates. If necessary, avoid total knee and get the resurfacing, Google it and read for yourself.

Good Luck!

Dr. Timothy Durnin
