My main question: in Turkey, people use Persian words in part for the dice scores in backgammon (incidentally, what do you call backgammon in Iran? Is it popular?) e.g. dubara for double two.
Is this genuine Persian? I can't imagine a sense of b:are which would make sense here - literally dobareh means "two times", but of course it should mean "two times two". Well, at least that's my limited understanding!

That name is پویان from the infinitive پوییدن, which means to move (with alacrity), to run or walk fast (with enthusiasm) according to moi:n and Dehkhoda: dictionary.
However, nowadays this word means something else to most of the people. It means to seek or search (to find truth). For instance, in my Aryanpur Persian to English dictionary, which has been updated recently, these are the suggested equivalents in English: to seek, to search, to scan, and to examine; i.e. there is nothing about its original meaning which was to move. As another instance, please consider this poem by Sha:mlo:, a famous contemporary Iranian poet.
دهانت را می بویند مبادا گفته باشی دوستت دارم
دلت را می پویند مبادا شعله ای در آن نهان باشد
روزگار غریبی است نازنین
The second verse means they examine your heart lest there is a flame [of love] in it.
About the word doba:reh I agree with you; it means again. Example:
Man doba:reh emteha:n da:dam من دوباره امتحان دادم.
Translation: I took the exam again.
In Persian language, we call double two “joft do” جفت دو, meaning pair of twos.
In Iran, backgammon, which we call it “takhte nard” (تخته نرد) or simply “takhteh” (تخته), is quite popular, and Iranian people firmly believe that the origin of this game is Iran.
