Question Dear Mojtaba,
Here's a word I can't find in my dictionary for some reason. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place.
What does بازهم mean, please? Is it made up of باز and هم? If so, what do the individual parts mean in this compound? I don't know why, but I always find combinations with هم difficult. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the word هم – e.g. باهم means “together”, doesn't it, but literally it seems to mean “with too”, which to me doesn't quite make sense.
All the best, and many thanks,
Simon
PS By the way, how can I say “Dear Mojtaba” in Persian? What about “PS”? I refer to letter-writing here.
Answer Hi Simon,
I think you may know the word 'همدیگر' or 'یکدیگر'. In many cases, 'هم' means همدیگر or یکدیگر. For example:
They went to school 'together'.
They love 'each other'.
Either' one can be used (Each one can be used instead of the other one).
So, whenever you faced 'هم', you can just check whether it means so or not.
But here, هم means something else. 'باز هم' somehow means 'باز' (=again). But ONLY there's OFTEN a little bit difference. باز هم is used when to express inability of affording a job and having done a process, or unexpectedly repeating some action looking obvious to fail or be wrong before it's started.
هر کجا بروم باز هم به همینجا بر خواهم گشت means 'To wherever I travel, I will again return here.' He is expressing a way of inability to move from the current place he is right now. He is not able to 'not return'. He is unable not to return. He 'again' will return here.
I give you more examples to get it all clear:
هر چقدر بگویم دوستت دارم، باز هم کم است.
Stating inability of expressing how much he/she loves her/him.
Stating indirectly that he has failed the exam several times before and he's still most probable to fail again. 'However', he has registered for the exam.
Often it does not differ from the solo 'باز' (=again).
[It's heard he's gone. Don't worry! He'll return 'again'.]
It's not that difficult, is it?
Dear Jack is said:
جک عزیز
PS is written:
پ.ن which stands for پی نوشت
Hope this helps.
With Best Regards, Mojtaba Parsa
