PC Strategy Games - advancing In empire earth

Question
A lot like the other questions you must get asked, How do people advance in empire earth so quickly? I have tried almost everything and never have in-active people. Every Plot (Gold,Iron e.t.c) have the full amount of people on and I also populate them. I do not build armies first and always focus on walls, towers and civ first. Can you give me any tips on advancing quicker? Cheers

Answer
Make sure you get all the traits that go along with mining, like +15% gold mining and +15 iron mining.
Alright I realize my answer wasn't timely or very informative so here's a follow up. Keyword: Micro. Meaning set every building that's producing citizens to go immediately to the resource, do not have them just stand. I don't know how many citizens you have building walls and towers but keep it limited to 1 or 2 if you aren't already. What I normally do is focus on food and wood initially until I have enough citizens on both so that I don't have to wait around for the resources to build a building or produce citizens. Then focus on iron and gold going at a 1:1 ratio, so after getting 6 citizens on iron but 6 on gold and so on and so forth. Stone is the least important resource only start gathering it once all gold and iron plots are filled. Also never stop producing villagers, if you have a ton of food and wood build more farms and gather more wood you should only be stockpiling iron and gold to advance. Research the gold mining and iron mining upgrades as soon as you advance to the next epoch. For populating typically just populate 1 or 2 settlements to villages initially, do not start populating other settlements until after the full amount of citizens is on that plot. Also I don't know if you are but build your settlements immediately next to the plot. Do not put one settlement inbetween a plot of iron and gold build 2 one for each. Get all the traits like I already said, gold mining, iron mining, and food if you want but populating the farms is just as good. When you play each game look at what resources you gather quickly and which ones you don't then next game focus on whatever resource you had trouble gathering.
