Question What does StarCraft do with decimal damage? Does it round it to the nearest whole or remove the decimal?
Let's say a siege tank is attacking a vulture. The siege tank does %75 of its damage to the vulture. So is the resulting 52.5 damage rounded up to 53 or is the .5 taken away to make 52 damage?
Also, if that vulture has been upgraded to 1 armor, is the armor first subtracted from the 70 damage of the siege tank, then the damage taken down to %75; or is the 70 damage taken down to %75, then the 1 armor subtracted from the result?
One last question. Do protoss units with a base armor of 1 or more start with shields at the same rating? Such as the zealot. Does it start with an armor and shield rating of 1 or just an armor rating of 1?
Answer Dear Nathaniel,
UNlike warcraft, starcraft does not do decimal damage nor do % of damage. It deals exact damage. BOnus from upgrades are included.. deducting the armour for each attack.
THus if a unit like dark templar does 50 damage against a zergling with upgrade 1 armour... It will deal only 49 damage.
Zealots attack are 2 prong...and thus every attack upgrade on a zealot is actually a +2attack instead of +1. Look at the zealot carefully and you'll see it swipe it's blade twice everytime it attacks. Those 2 hits are calculated seperately, against the armour/attack bonuses.
THus an attack upgrade on a zealot effectively adds +2, instead of +1 to it's attack.
You'll notice that a +1 attack upgrade at the forge for the zealot enables it to kill zerglings in a single attack because of this.
SImilarly, a +1 armour upgrade on the zergling will negate that.
WIth regard to seige tank damage. I believe you are asking about the splash damages. Splash damages are hard to calculate, as they do not deal exactly 75% of the damage. SPlash Damage is calculated based upon distance from the unit being Struck. It is hard to determine the exact damage dealt to the units surrounding it. However, like i mentioned, starcraft do not deal decimal damages.
Lastly, Shields and armour are different. Upgrades of armour do not affect shields, and upgrades of shields do not affect armour.
Armour upgrades only take into effect after all shields are depleted.
