Question
QUESTION: Dear Denny,

Hi! It's Thomas again.
The beginning of match tactics are working great.
I, however always seem to get owned in the later parts of the match. I just got owned by a carrier and BC attack right before this >.<

How do I prevent this, and how do I launch an equally devastating attack on the opponent?

Also, how do I handle a Siege Tank rush?

Should I make many turrets for air defense or stick to Wraiths and Valkyries?

I have so many questions =P

Thanks for helping!
Thomas

P.S. You should get paid for this >.>
ANSWER: Hey Thomas,

Well, infantry works nuts versus carrier/BC. Try this...

Goliaths = Best anti-air unit in entire Starcraft (especially with upgraded range) In fact they work very well versus land units too.

Get up 2 factories at least, and amass goliaths. Target BC/carriers 1 by 1. You can use shift clicking to queue 1 carrier after the next.

Wraiths sucks, except for covert operations. They work only when you have 6 or more, however they are hard to keep alive, and have horrible armour.

Ghost-lockdown work excellently against BC/carriers, but it's expensive. Goliaths are generally cheaper. Ghost are to lockdown 1/2 of them, which you finish the other half 1st.

Not forgetting, EMP shockwave = Carrier killer. As you tech up to goliaths when you scout and see him going carriers, get up 1-2 science vessels too. You'll need the EMP versus high templars too.

Seige tank rush? seige up your own tanks. Lift off an engineering bay to scout for your tank. Tanks weapon range exceeds their sight range. So you'll have an advantage with an aerial scout. Engineering bays are cheap, have tons of life/armour.

Turrets suks, use them only for detection, and also about 2-3 near your command centre ONLY if you forsee enemy rushing your workers with air units like mutalisks/wraiths.

Hope it helps. Feel free to ask. Working so may not reply too quickly.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Hi again. Thanks for the quick answer.

Are bunkers good defence in a fast map?
I usually set up 2 bat bunkers in the opening of my area of the map, stimpacked.

How many barracks should I have in a single base in a money map?

Is this a good attack squad:
30 rines
10 bats
15 medics
20 goliaths
10 wraiths
5 valkyries
10 siege tanks
3 sci. vessels.

About a siege tank rush:
Do I cluster them or set them up separately?
Also, should I set up macros (with ctrl # rite?)
and siege 1/2 first and get the other 1/2 to cover them while the rest are sieging?

I was thinking, when I got inuff minerals, that i would make like 6 factories and like 6 starports and 10 barracks and mass bc and goliaths and tanks?

Is that good? lol

Thanks again,
Thomas

Answer
Hi Thomas,

In small maps, i usally have my rines out near my command centre, so i can use SCVs to shield and attack while rines back them up, should there be a 6 zergling rush. Other than that, usually it will be fine. I will suggest forgoing the bunker and use the extra cash to tech up a bit.

As for money maps...

In my opinion, i think goliaths + tanks are the best combination for terran. Just go pure machinery. With 2-3 science vessels for backup. infantry don't do very well.
Usually you won't see enemy amassing zealots. But however if you do, vultures might help. But i think goliaths do the best, once you have amassed alot of them. Defensive matrix helps too, should you have too much gas, and you can invest them in vessels. If enemy went pure air. Goliaths + a few valkyries should do the trick.

Or alternatively, you can amass battlecrusiers of your own. Not my favourite type of play, as BCs are pretty weak versus massive amounts of hydralisks..etc.

Tanks own them though.
=D

Try getting 1- 1.5 group of tanks. And amass tons of goliaths. Upgrade all of them. They should do well against air and land. Remember to target carriers... not their interceptors...

If it's getting hard, cloak some ghosts and lockdown a few of them. That will take them out. But that requires quite a bit of micro.
